Taughannock is Rockin’ And Rollin’

A fast-moving storm dumped a ton of water on ground that really couldn’t take much more. Flood warnings are up all over the place, so I knew that Taughannock would quickly pick up its volume and give a good show. It didn’t disappoint!

The best part of the show was the upper falls, honestly. To see that volume of water cascading through such a narrow slot under the bridge is quite amazing!

  1. Thanks for sharing, Scott! I graduated from Ithaca College in 1997 and haven’t been back since (shame on me!) My husband and two sons (ages 14 and 12) are camping in Taughaunnock Falls State Park next week and I can’t wait! Can you recommend any sights/activities/family restaurants that are a must see before we leave? We’re staying for three nights. Watkins Glen is on the list and hopefully some mountain biking or trail riding. It’s been 22 years since I was there and I’m sure a lot has changed! Your site is great…thanks for the info!

    1. Thank you so much! I hope you guys have a wonderful time camping. I run through part of the camping area whenever I run the rim trail, and I’m jealous of the campers. Especially when I smell bacon cooking! You’ll have a blast. In Trumansburg, check out atlasbowl.com for great food and drink. Bowling is fun, too! garrettsbrewing.com also opened in place of the Rongo and would be great for you and your husband to have a locally-crafted beer while you and your family enjoy a take-out pizza from Little Venice next door. That’s always fun! Ithaca is growing up fast, especially the end of town near IC. If you’ve not been to Viva Taqueria, that’d be on my list for sure. Ithaca Beer is always fun, too, and they have a fantastic outdoor space if the weather’s nice. For a nice, easy ride, Black Diamond Trail can’t be beat. It’s really fun way to get to Ithaca, and I wrote more about it at https://taughannock.us/activities/hiking. Hope you have a fantastic time!
